1. Download and open Bitpim.

2. Make sure you set your phone setting to the Data Service (Menu/Settings/Connection/USB Connection Mode/Data Service)

3. Connect your phone to the computer, if you have the CU720 you have to manually set the phone settings on Bitpim to the LGVX8700 or else it will not read it. I'm not sure if you have to do this with any other Shine.

4. Under File System in Bitpim, go to LGAPP>Media>Midis>MsgTone

5. Overwrite any message tone file that you no longer want and replace it with your own. You can right click the file and hit "Overwrite" to do this.

6. Be sure to back up your file just in case something happens in the future, and you want to change it or the system somehow messes up, which I doubt could happen in this instance. But it's always good to be safe!

I hope you have benefited from this, and if you need anymore help with it please don't hesitate to reply or pm me.

It could be your com port setting, which is usually set to 8. To manually check and see which port you plugged your phone into, go to Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. There you can look under Com ports and see which one your cable runs to. Manually set the port just like you did the phone.
It usually takes a few minutes for the phone to load, but the only thing that will load is the filesystem part. You can't change contacts or sms messaging, or anything like that.
If this still doesn't work I can do a picture tutorial.
Please let me know if this helps!

Bitpim refuses to reconize my lg shine KE970!....
i was trying to find out what port my phone was connected so when i was in settings i clicked on "browse" accross from the com port option and it came up with "LGE Mobile Modem" under "ports not avalible", so i clicked on it and it said "the port is active but not avalible for use" and "its not possible to open this port".
Please advice as to how i can get bitpim to reconize my phone!
Or is there another hacking program for my phone that i can use?
I noticed that the program is meant for CDMA phones, and im pretty sure my phone is a gsm, could this be the problem?
It would  be much apreshiated if you did an image turial.
Thanks in advance.

if u dont want the stupid noise it makes when u send a message go to effect sound and save the success.mid file incase u want to retrieve it later then delete it and congradulations!!!

if u want full songs as ringtones u can replace the system preset songs via the ringtones section

what USB drivers did you use for your shine?

I'm trying to use the VX8000 drivers, and it works for mass storage, but when i select data service and try to connect to bitpim, it always just says "Other CDMA Phone Found" and i can't access anything on the phone....

I HAVE A LG SHINE CU720..AND I WANNA ASK YOU WILL THIS DAMAGE MY PHONE IF I USE BITPIM???

Depends on what you do with it and how experienced you are with the program. As long as you stay within ringtones, message tones, graphics, etc you shouldn't cause any real damage to your phone.

I meant to reply to your post, Germ, not edit it. I'm sorry. It's been a bit since I've logged here and forgot that was the edit button. I'm sorry again.
